Anna Luisa Di Lorenzo, M.D., born in Toronto, Canada, was educated at the University of Toronto, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Honours degree in 1983. She went on to complete her medical training at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1988 and completed two residencies: Internal Medicine at Wayne State University and Ophthalmology at the Kresge Eye Institute of Wayne State University.
She has held many leadership positions, including Chief Resident in her final year of training, Board Member and President of the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, and Third-Party Payor Committee Chair for the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. On a national level, she serves on numerous committees of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). She was selected to participate in the AAO Leadership Development Class in 2003 and has subsequently served on the OPHTHPAC Committee, the AAO Nominating Committee, and the editorial board of the Basic Science Course: Update on General Medicine. She is currently a member of the AAO Secretariat for State Affairs and has the honor of serving on the American Academy of Ophthalmology Board of Trustees. She has received an AAO Achievement Award for her contributions.
Most recently, she was appointed to the Medicare Contract Advisory Committee representing the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. She has been a keynote speaker delivering two named lectureships at the Kresge Eye Institute of Wayne State University. She has also been a poster judge at the recent Michigan Summit on Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, and Wellness.
Dr. Di Lorenzo enjoys teaching and sharing her knowledge with medical students and residents alike. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Wayne State University and a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. She has many diverse interests, including acting, cycling, running, and traveling. Combining her love of travel with her desire to give back, she also participates in regular medical missions to Kenya through KenyaRelief.org.
