Dr. Alvarez-Carpenter was raised in Northville, Michigan. He graduated in 2018 from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Laboratory Science. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in 2018, he began attending Michigan College of Optometry in Big Rapids, Michigan. In April 2022, he graduated with his Doctor of Optometry degree.
During his time at Michigan College of Optometry, he was involved in many leadership positions, including serving as President of the Michigan Optometric Student Association, and was awarded Student of the Year for both the Michigan Optometric Association and the Michigan College of Optometry. He was recognized for academic excellence with the J. Pat Cummings Scholarship, Paul E. Borton Scholarship, Dr. Henry R. Racki Optometry Scholarship, and the Michigan Foundation for Vision Awareness Scholarship.
He completed his clinical training at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan, and the Chico Eye Center in Chico, California. He continued his clinical training for three years by working as an optometrist in a private ophthalmology practice in Washington State.
Dr. Alvarez-Carpenter is passionate about service, education, and giving back to the community, and has participated in numerous outreach and screening programs. Dr. Alvarez-Carpenter is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the Michigan Optometric Association (MOA).
